1. Three responses to inequality:

a. ignore the problem (rely on "trickle down theory")

b. resist globalization

c. cope with globalization and reshape it: people at the bottom have been hurt by it

2. Need for global institutions:

a. need for a change of mind--to think globally

b. discussion must focus on global justice.

3. Reforms:

a. increased transparency

b. more openness

c. help developing countries to participate

d. improve accountability

e. new social contract:

1) promoting shared research

2) put aside squabbling over who is to blame

3) fight global poverty

4) become economically interdependent
