I mostly have Japanese comics (manga),
but I also have Iranian (originally French-language), Korean (manhwa), and
American comics.
American comics are known for their
superheroes; the USA is the land of Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, etc.
Yet I prefer comics that are not about superheroes. I want to get Incogregro and A History of Violence
(I saw the film already). My favorite American comic is Maus, written by
Art Spiegelman; this one describes the tale of Spiegelman's father,
Vladek, as he and his wife survive Auschwitz.
My mom got me a graphic novel version of
Quick and Flupke
in Bermuda (I forget whether I was born or if I was not yet born) - I
thought the characters were British at first, but in fact this was a
British translation of a Belgian comic. The author, Hergé
(Georges Prosper Remi) also wrote the Tintin books. Did
you know that The Smurfs
are also Belgian?
Most of the comics I have are Japanese.
I've got a Shonen Jump
subscription, plus I have some graphic novels ofseries
published by Shueisha and Shogakukan. In addition I have a little
Korean comic sampler book from ice Kunion. Also, I could try to get
some Chinese comics (manhua)
and maybe present them to my Mandarin Chinese study group.
I like:
* Maus
* One Piece
* Persepolis
* Yu-Gi-Oh!
(Volumes 1-7 only)
How to legally get comics:
1. Go to a bookstore
2. Go on Amazon.com
3. Go to a flea market or a used book store
4. For webcomics you can just read them on the internet
