We're seeing the effects of global warming all around us -
more intense heat waves that disproportionately affect the elderly and poor,
more severe storms that wreak havoc on our homes and communities, and all kinds
of changing cycles in the natural world. Greenpeace is urging you to take action
by joining our worldwide effort to stop the harmful effects of global warming.
Project Hot Seat encourages citizens of the country to speak with their local
representatives and urge them sign on to the Safe Climate Act in order for our
country to take small steps toward an effective change. We are putting members
of Congress in the "hot seat" by voicing our concern over this global issue.
Immediate action is required. America must begin to reduce global warming
pollution now. We must guarantee global warming pollution reductions, with
enforceable deadlines. And we need to start an "Energy Revolution" by promoting
clean and efficient sources of energy, not dirty and dangerous fossil fuels or
nuclear power.
The Facts
Scientists say we must begin to significantly reduce our emissions within
the next ten years if we are to avoid the most dangerous impacts of global
warming.
Coal-fired power plants are the largest single source of global warming
pollution.
